Questions

What is a perfect rhyme?

Two words rhyme perfectly when they share every sound from their last stressed vowel to the end: CAT and ACROBAT, HAPPY and SNAPPY. The sounds before that vowel can be anything.

What is a near rhyme?

A word that almost rhymes, also called a slant or half rhyme: the same vowel sound with similar consonants (CAT and BACK), or the same last vowel and ending. Poets and songwriters use them when a perfect rhyme sounds forced.

Where do the rhymes come from?

Pronunciations come from the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary by Carnegie Mellon University. Only words valid on Wordtide's English board are listed (the public-domain ENABLE word list without offensive words), and the most common words come first.

Why do the words have numbers?

Each number is the word's points in Wordtide, a free word game on one endless board shared by players worldwide: the sum of its letter values before bonus squares.
