Words with Q and no U
A Q without a U can clog a rack for turns. There are far fewer Q-without-U words than players expect, so it pays to know the handful that are common enough to remember.
The board's list holds 21 words with a Q and no U, but most are rare. Below are the shortest and most familiar. None of them has only two letters.

What to do with a Q
With a U on your rack, QUIZ-type words are worth the wait, especially on a bonus square. Without one, play a Q-without-U word if you can spot it, or swap. A Q that sits for three turns costs you more than a small score now. If a spot opens for a long word that holds Q, the Q list shows lengths up to eight letters.
Tips
- Keep a U only if you also hold a Q or have a bonus spot in mind.
- Look for a vowel already on the board that the Q can sit beside.
- Blank tiles stand in for any letter, so a blank turns a Q into a normal play.

Questions
Are there any two-letter words with Q?
Not in the dictionary Wordtide's English board uses. The shortest playable Q words without U are listed on this page, in order of length.
Is it ever worth keeping a Q?
If you hold a U (or a blank) and a spot for QUIZ or a long word, yes. Otherwise use a Q-without-U word or swap it away quickly: a stuck Q costs more than it scores.
How are the points worked out?
Each letter has a value from 1 to 9 and a word scores the sum of its letters. Bonus squares on the board then multiply that.
